Why 8 and not 10 like most lists? Well firstly 8 is the Chinese number of abundance, and we all want to be abundantly healthy, wealthy and wise right? For ourselves and our families! Secondly when we start to change its good to change things we normally take for granted(like lists and stuff) and lastly 8 gives you room to make your own suggestions that we would love to hear about. Have a gr8 summer.
1. The first of July is the start of the second half of the year and gives you a second chance at all your New Years resolutions. Going on a diet or fitness plan never really works at the new year. This summer is the best time of year to get into shape, change your diet, take up yoga, open your heart to live and do the things in your life that really make you feel alive and happy. Try a new healthy dish, go for a walk at a different park, go to that new class you have been thinking about. Go on as Guru 'Nike' says 'Just Do it!' . Your Soul will love you for it.
2. Change your channel. As on television there are new seasons for your favorite shows. How about a new season that
is fresh and filled with great expectations in joy and fun of your life? You get to choose what plays in your program and change what is not to
your liking anymore. It is your
choice. Choose from your heart. A open heart makes it easier to make the best choices. Doing Seasonal Yoga at this time of year focuses on postures, flows and meditations that open up the heart meridian and can help you live from the heart and make better choices for you and your families health and wellbeing.Exactly what yoga does for you. This is a time of year to open up your heart and make better choices in all areas of your life. Open up your heart and try some yoga over the summer. This is a great time to do Seasonal Flow, Hot Yoga, Ashtanga or Power Yoga classes.
3. Change your diet. Summer is the best time to do this. Your diet is 80% of your body and that you are what you eat so never be cheap, fast, easy and false. So make that 80% good. When you start doing Yoga you start to be more aware of your body and its nutritional needs, it may not happen overnight, but be patient and small changes will lead to better health and feelings of vitality. Lots of red and purple foods like Strawberries, tomatoes, red peppers and beet root are great for your fire energy.
4. Change your idea about your summer holiday. Instead of making plans for a summer holidays why not make plans for your dream life. Get your notepad out and jot down all the things that make you happy and how you could go about making this summer into the first summer of the rest of your best life. Think about the amount of time and effort we put into planning our holidays , if we put the same amount into planning our lives we may not feel we need so many holidays to get away from it. Make your life a lovely summer of content.
5. Change your attitude to change. Change is good, change helps you grow. Just like the seasons change so do we. What you resist persist and the moment you realise that change is a part of live and will help you make improvements in your live and those around you.
6. Change the record! Change that song in your head that keeps telling you that your not good enough or you can't do it. Change your cant's for 'I can do it', 'I will do it', or 'I might not be able to do it today(and im okay with that) but one day I will'. This attitude is not only ideal for your yoga practice but in all areas of your life too. And while we are on the subject of records the summer is a great time to play your favourite song and dance n shake it out! Great time combine yoga and dance and to take part in a salsa or 5 rhythms dance class which has rhythmic music and is great fun.
7. Change Your emotions to Joy. A Great emotion to cultivate this summer season. Let joy be your habitual way of responding to the world. Make a commitment to look for joy everywhere. Offer joyful commentary wherever possible. Reach out to others in cheerfulness. Go on a rampage of appreciation, rather than discussing the evils of the world. Use every opportunity to radiate joy. Share your joy and be kind to yourself and your world. Give from the heart and bring a bit of sunshine into your or someone else's life every day. Just a small thing will do. It is such an important thing to bring happiness to others. enJOY! :)
8. Change your awareness. Become aware of the things you do and your habitual actions and ways of thinking. For example catch yourself next time you say you don't have time to do Yoga. You can easily do a sun salutation while you wait for the kettle to boil! And talking about kettles why don't you try changing what hand you use to pour with.( This helps to keep both sides of the brain active and in balance). And even changing your tea to herbal and changing the flavours is great for you. Become aware of what you do, the seasons, your surroundings, your loved ones and take some time to appreciate how wonderful your body is and what it does for you. Become aware of the amazing way we are built and the reactions that take place when we take actions. Did you know that when you kind to someone your releases serotonin 'the feel good hormone' ! The amazing fact is this does not only get released in you but also the person whom you are kind to and even more amazingly to anyone who has witnessed this kindness! Wow take a moment to feel how amazing that is!!! :) Taking the time to become more aware and make small changes helps us so much when we are faced with bigger changes in our lives. It prepares us and gives us perspective and helps us escape our habits. Habituation is judging without weighing, assuming without understanding, it happens when we become blunted to the subtle beauties surrounding us, when we stop seeing things as if for the first time, as a child is capable of doing. It is a reduction of our awareness rather than an expansion of our consciousness. Expand your consciousness , do yoga, meditate, walk in nature, become more aware of your self and your habits, become aware of the seasons and how they affect you(this will also bring peace of mind, compassion and understanding). Awareness brings change and opens you up to the beauty that you are and the beauty that surrounds you.
Have a gr8 summer.
Make small changes and kind acts.
Just do it!
Love and Summer sunshine light be with you.
Keep smiling. :)
Wherever you walk may it be beautiful
